Loyaltyware

July 11, 2008 by Todd Miller

Loyaltyware is software used by an affiliate or partner that gives some kind of reward back to the individual users, as an incentive for the users to do as much business as possible through the affiliate or partner. This could take the form of cash-back offers, credits towards goods and services, etc. Loyaltyware can also include software that adds value by suggesting coupons, promotions, deals, and other legitimate methods of lowering prices on goods and services. Often, Loyaltyware will initiate commission/payment tracking technology without the user actually clicking on anything (non-user initiate click). The user, however, has opted-into this experience, as it provides tangible value back to the user. As well, the advertisers involved know and consent to being promoted using these features, as it can - sometimes - be the only way to reach customers truly ‘loyalty’ to shopping through loyaltyware.

There are some that contend that loyaltyware is little-or-no-different than hijackware. We do not agree. Loyaltyware has disclosure and opt-in by both user and advertiser and it has a value-proposition to the user that is extremely difficult for other affiliates and partners to compete with. It can provide advertisers access to a pool of potential customers they may not have had access to previously. Which can be even more important if the advertiser has competitors participating in the loyaltyware program.
